Health Coaching
The Lavender Shop
Coaching is an evidence-based approach to lifestyle modification.
That's at least the technical definition for it.
I can explain coach in the meaning of the word “Coach”. It is an english word that means a vehicle, that takes you from where you are to where you want to go.
And that is exactly what a coach is. It is someone who takes you from where you are and helps you go where you want to go. Which is why the first thing we do in coaching is find out where you want to go (your Goal) and we discover where you are now (Assessment) and the coaching process is the partnership we have to help you make the proper action plan, that will allow you to reach your Goal.
Coaching, the one that is certified by the ICF at least, can be in several different areas. It first started as Life coaching. But now you’ll find life coaches specializing in a specific area of coaching in order to be even more helpful.
Fields of Coaching:
Health + Wellness
Relationship
Career/Business
Parenting
Co-dependence (addiction of all kinds)
Philosophy of Coaching:
Coaching honors the client and recognizes them as the EXPERT in their lives. And that every client is creative, resourceful and whole.
Which means my role as your coach is to listen, ask and understand.
Coaching Pillars :
Client is the expert
Client is responsible for the change
Judgement free
All of that means that I will never badly judge you (because we all judge, our brain has to, but we can judge positively or negatively) and I won't ever do that with you negatively. And it means that you are responsible for your change. It's not me who made you change, it is YOU who made you change.
You are responsible for your life and it's up to you to make the changes you want to make in it, it's always your choice. I am here to help facilitate the way, pave it with ease and help you navigate it cause change is not easy alone. All factors around us affect us, it's actually scientifically called 6 Sources of Influence (but that's another story.)
And it means that you are the expert in your life, that means what works for me could possibly not work for you. So, you won't be seeing me suggesting solutions to you, instead we'll work together to find your own solutions that work best for you.
It is Coaching that is specific to your health and wellness. It encompasses 7 dimensions of heath and 8 dimensions of wellness.
That means all of the above in included and can be your goal in the Health and Wellness Coaching field:
Mental health
Physical health + wellness
Emotional health + wellness
Spiritual health + wellness
Financial health
Social wellness
Intellectual wellness
Occupational wellness
Environmental wellness
What does that mean in terms of things I can help you with in everyday life?
Check the question + answer specifically for that below ;)
If you’re still not sure if your goal can be reached through health and wellnes coaching that’s what discovery calls are for!
Well, coaching is simply here as a the solution to one problem:
“Why don’t we do what we know we should do?”
Just think about a health goal you want to achieve, if you really think about it you’ll notice that you probably have the information you need to start working towards making it happen. So why aren’t you?
It’s because change is hard. And Change Behaviour Science tells us that human beings need help getting from where they are to where they want to be.
And that help is Coaching.
Like I mentioned above, coaching is what will bridge that gap from knowing the information (point A) to (achieving the goal B).
A coach is there to help you through the 7 steps towards making lasting sustainable change. The kind of change you wanted to do and have been trying on and off for years to do but couldn’t.
You are not the problem.
The problem is that humans don’t do things great alone, especially change. Having someone with you on the journey, keeps you accountable (until you develop self accountability) and helps you navigate the hurdles of changing the behaviour you want.
You need coaching if you’ve been trying to change something about your health and wellness and you keep getting motivated for 2 week, 3 months even and you still fall back to where you were before you began, without really any lasting behavioural change.
We’ve all been there. We get super motivated after a big turning point in our life. We find our motivation and it’s easy, at first. But then something happens, a set back of sorts, and we find our motivation fails us a bit. Then day by day, we lose that motivation all together (we know this in the coaching world, that’s why we don’t rely on motivation alone.)
And we end up not learning from our setbacks (which we do in coaching), or making a better action plan (which we also do) and we find it hard to actually cross that finish line and reach that destination (goal) we set out for ourselves.
If you’ve ever experienced this, and you don’t want to anymore, and want to actually live the healthy life you keep saying you’ll live every new year as a resolution, then you will benefit from a health coach.
Yes, there are situations where coaching can’t work.
1)You are forced into it. If someone in your family is making you go or if you’re going to make someone else happy, it won’t work. Cause a big part of setting our goals is understanding our why, and the more goal is attached to our personal values, the better we’ll be able to stick to our goals.
2) If your goal is unattainable, like you want to become the next Buddha or you want to lose 20 kilos in 30 days kinda deal. That’s why a discovery call is essential to find out if your goal is appropriate and can be coached or not. Other wise it would be unethical to take your money to coach you towards a goal that is physically impossible to achieve (in a healthy way at least.)
3) If you are under 18 years old. The ICF Certification ethical rules and guidelines stipulate that I can’t coach anyone below 18 years old since their brain is not yet fully developed to the point where coaching would work and for obvious reason as well. Coaching is a lot about self discovery along your journey and when you’re too young, you’re still figuring things out phsyiologically, mentally and spiritually.
“The ICF is the International Coaching Federation is the leading global organization for coaches and coaching. ICF is dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high standards, providing independent certification and building a worldwide network of trained coaching professionals.”
That’s what you’ll find on their website anyway. Basically, it’s one of the places that sort of governs certified coaches and makes sure they are following ethical rules and guidelines to ensure proper client care is given and no one is doing something “fishy” under the name of coaching!
That’s why it’s quite important for you to ask your coach if they’re certified to ensure they will adhere to the ethical code, as you have the ability to report them (through ECR, Ethical Conduct Review) and they can investigate the coach, possibly revoking his certtificate or putting him on probation.
I’m not quite sure what they do but I’m guessing it’s not great, hehe
These are not the only things health coaching can help with, I just wanted to give you guys some ideas to help paint a better picture.
Examples of initial goals (meaning they are not specific yet)
Enhancing self confidence + self image
Having a consistent meditation routine
Being kinder to your body
Having a better relationship with food
Inutitive eating (following a hunger scale and connecting to your body cues)
Stopping your overthinking mind
Stop smoking
Improving mental health (non mental health illness related goals)
Being gentle and kinder to your self (self love)
Stress management
Work on anger management
Work on bringing peace and calm into your life
Sleep and all its goals (other than any issue that involves any illness)
Finding your life purpose
Building better relationships and connections (but if it’s a partner a relationship coach will better help)
Working on your spiritual wellness (however that might look. and it has nothing to do with religion just so you know ^_^)
Sustaining a healthy habit
Working on lifestyle diseases like :
Diabetes (high bloog sugar)
Autoimmune diseases (fibromyalgia, psoriasis, etc)
Hypertention (high blood pressure)
And others that you might be more familiar with:
Losing weight
Eating more balanced meals
Drinking more water
(yes, I coached a client before just to start drinking more water and she went from barely finishing a 600ml bottle in 24hrs to easily finishing 2.5 liters/day without even realising she hit her daily goal and she drank more. For more testimonials go here)
Working out consistently.
The list is endless honestly, but these are just some ideas from real life client goals and some I thought of.
It’s a process of meeting Online Zoom Call (or offline in Sheikh Zayed) for an hour every week. Every week you leave with more clarity on what you need to do and after a specific goal has been set, we create an action plan together that you follow to the best of your abilities till next week.
There is also exercises and “assignments” that I give you to work on throughout the week, they inlclude coaching tools and exercises that you can fill out and we discuss what you discovered, journaling reflections, and so on. These ofcourse are given according to your schedule, so not every week will have an assignment and it depends on what phase we’re in and if you need it this week or not.
But it’s important to note that does include a lot of self discovery and a big portion of that is done through these assignments.
Then we meet and find what worked, what didn’t work and what set backs you had so we can learn from them, better improve the action plan and work throught the 7 steps of creating lasting behaviour change.
This may take from 3-6 months upto however long it takes you to be achieving your goal and sustaining it (Step 7: Maintenance) for a good amount of time and you feel you’re ready to start meeting every other week instead of every week.
Then we can meet just for once every 3 weeks or 1 a month until you feel that you are able to sustain this goal on your own without weekly accountability checks and support. Then we would have successfully reached the end of our partnership.
At which point you have the choice to either work on another goal or we end our journey here ^_^

Yes of course!
Though it might depend on what language you speak as of right now I only can coach in English and Arabic (and a mix of both of course that's fine.)
Even though I speak French and I'm currently learning Spanish + ASL, I'm not proficient enough (yet) to coach in any of them.
Regarding location and payment, I've had clients who live in the US, UAE and Europe and payment was quite easy. As the invoice I sent you with the link to pay is very straightforward.
Also, because the company I work with "Kashier" are quiet professional, they make payments from anywhere around the world really easy.
So yes, of course I'd be honored to be your coach from anywhere around the world <3
